Meet Hope Spector

I provide individual therapy in Nashville, Brentwood, and surrounding areas as well as online therapy throughout Tennessee. I also offer relationship counseling to couples and am certified in Imago Relationship Therapy.

I help my clients work toward and accomplish their personal life and treatment goals in an open, safe, and nonjudgmental way. Whether an individual needs therapy for anxiety and depression, trauma therapy, grief counseling, or something else, I integrate effective therapeutic approaches to align with my clients’ unique needs, goals, and preferences. My therapy style is interactive, supportive, and goal-oriented.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Mental Health Service Provider designation (LPC-MHSP) in Tennessee. I hold dual Master’s degrees in Professional Clinical Counseling from La Salle University and Human Sexuality from Widener University. I also earned my Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Indiana University.

My experience covers a diverse array of individuals with a wide variety of concerns and goals. I provide therapy for anxiety and stress, depression, trauma, intimacy and relationships, LGBTQIA+ related issues, self-esteem, grief and loss, life changes and adjustments, eating disorders, OCD-related issues, anger management, ADHD, and motivation.  I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), strengths-based approaches, Mindfulness, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Imago Therapy to help my clients make real progress.

Prior to joining Music City Psych in Nashville, TN, I provided psychotherapy services within outpatient mental health centers and private practice settings.

I am originally from Philadelphia and have been happily living in Nashville since 2018. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, cooking, traveling to the beach, and catching up on my favorite TV shows.

Q & A with Hope

I understand that every client has unique needs, preferences, and experiences, so I employ a broad toolset that helps me to cater every session to meet each client’s individual needs.

My style is collaborative, and I work with my clients as a member of their team. I seek to understand my client’s unique learning style in order to incorporate different interventions, exercises, and techniques that align with how they learn best. I regularly check in with my clients in order to understand what is most helpful to them during our sessions and about the different exercises I assign for them to experiment with between their sessions.

Clients arrive at therapy with different reasons, focuses, and motivations. Whether it’s anxiety and stress, depression, trauma, LGBTQIA+ related issues, intimacy and relationships, or something else, I utilize effective treatment strategies to match each client’s personality and situation.

Every scenario is different, and there’s no single “answer” to an issue. I take the time to assess each client’s situation mindfully and draw from many therapeutic disciplines to help them meet their goals successfully. I have extensive experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), strengths-based approaches, Mindfulness, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Imago Therapy, so my clients and I can use the approach that best suits their needs or mix and match as the opportunity arises.

During every session, I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can speak in confidence. Active listening is a major factor in me doing the best work for my clients. I offer support, unconditional positive regard, and honest feedback. I challenge my clients as I help them explore and understand their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, experiences, and underlying beliefs. Along the way, I teach my clients new skills that align with their needs and concerns.

I meet my clients where they are at and help empower them to make healthy changes in order to live their best lives. I believe in the importance of developing trust and having open, honest communication as part of establishing a strong therapeutic relationship. I also think it’s important to talk about things in life that are going well and are contributing to my clients’ wellness because if we do not do so, then how are we going to know to keep doing these things in order to stay well?

Developing a trusting therapeutic relationship helps to foster positive, long-lasting change within my clients’ lives. I enjoy teaching my clients new skills and techniques that help them to navigate challenges and develop a sense of resiliency that allows them to live deeper, more fulfilling, and authentic lives. I strive to make a meaningful impact on my clients’ lives as they discover how to make positive changes based off of who they want to be and how they want to live their best lives moving forward. I enjoy being a part of each client’s overall wellness journey, empowering my clients to make positive changes within their lives and helping them work through their struggles, take pride in their successes, and accomplish their personal life and treatment goals.
